Chita Rivera "Dim The Lights" Collection Ornament (2024 Collection)
Chita Rivera "Dim The Lights" Collection Ornament (2024 Collection)
Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero might have been her birthname, but she'll be remembered world-over as simply CHITA. She made her Broadway debut as a replacement dancer in Guys & Dolls, but it would be her sixth Broadway show, West Side Story, in the leading role of Anita that would make her a star. Eighteen Broadway shows over the course of six decades on Broadway made her a Broadway legend who sadly left us at the age of ninety-one in 2024. As part of our "Dim The Lights" Collection, her caricature is framed by all of our Broadway credits in metallic gold in this handmade ornament.
Beginning in September 1952 with the passing of newly-minted Tony Award winner Gertrude Lawrence during her run of The King And I opposite Yul Brynner, all 41 Broadway marquee lights are dimmed at the same time for one minute to acknowledge a theatrical legend. It is Broadway's highest honor. Our "Dim The Lights" Collection of ornaments seeks to further celebrate the artistic contributions of these legends with a custom caricature encircled by all of their Broadway appearances.
